Welcome to the 8th edition of the Steinway Youth Piano Competition (SYPC), a biennial event that brings together talented young pianists from 8 Southeast Asian countries: Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam. The purpose of competition is to identify, encourage, and promote young pianists in the formative stages of their careers.
The local edition of SYPC is an exciting experience that enables pianists from all over Thailand to meet and interact with each other in one location; with the option to compete in The Professional Class where the Grand Prize Winner will represent Thailand in the Southeast Asia Regional Finals to compete for a spot at the International Steinway Festival, or the Amateur Class where pianists of all skill levels are welcome to showcase their progression in their piano-playing journey.
The prestigious Steinway Youth Piano Competition which focuses on young, aspiring musicians ages 17 and below, attracts hundreds of talented contestants, as well as numerous musical professionals who come to witness and support these musicians.
The 8th Steinway Youth Piano Competition Thailand in 2027 will focus on two Classes, The Professional Class and The Amateur Class.
The Grand Prize Winner of The Professional Class will represent Thailand in the Southeast Asia Regional Finals, competing for a chance to perform at the International Steinway Festival in Hamburg, Germany. In this Class, contestants are expected to follow the repertoire requirements.
The Amateur Class is a great platform for those who wish to showcase their passion in music and meet other musicians. In this Class, contestants are allowed to choose the music they feel best represents their talent, without having to perform compulsary works.

The International Steinway Youth Piano Competition was originated in Berlin, Germany in 1936, and inaugurated in Southeast Asia in 2012. This is the 8th time the South-East Asia Pacific region has been included in the International Steinway Festival. As classical music becomes an important element in this region, there is demand for high-level competitions on a global level for these young budding talents.
In the 8th Steinway Regional Finals Southeast Asia Pacific in 2027, the national representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam will be selected to compete with each other to determine Southeast Asia Pacific’s participant at the International Steinway Festival.
Created in 1987, the Steinway Festival is an important biennial event sponsored by Steinway & Sons in Hamburg, Germany. Its purpose is to identify, encourage, and promote young pianists in the formative stage of their careers. Ever since, the selected pianists from different regions have been invited to Hamburg to experience an exciting festival program and, above all, a valuable exchange with like-minded people.
