7th Steinway Youth Piano Competition 2025


Which Class should I register for, and can I join both?

  • Contestants are only allowed to participate in a single Class, either Professional or Amateur.
  • As the Competition aims to identify, encourage and promote young pianists, contestants are encouraged to participate in the higher Class that they are eligible for.

If I am a foreigner, can I apply for the Professional Class?

  • While the Representative selected to the Regional Finals has to hold Thai Citizenship or Permanent Residency, foreigner may register for the Professional Class as long as he or she is a resident of Thailand.

How should I set-up the video recording for Preliminary Round?

  • Please refer to this photo for the recommended video recording position.

  • Further video recording requirements can be found at Video Recording tab on Professional Class and Amateur Class pages.
     

What if I do not have an acoustic piano at home for the video recording?

  • To facilitate access to an instrument for the video recording, a list of partnered locations can be found at Instrument & Location tab on Professional Class and Amateur Class pages.
     

What if I missed a submission deadline?

  • The respective deadlines are:

Early Bird Applications: 31 October 2024
Standard Applications: 31 December 2024
Repertoire Submission: 31 December 2024
Video Recording Submission for Preliminary Round: 31 March 2025

  • Any submissions after the respective deadlines will not be accepted.
     

May I edit my application after it has been submitted?

  • The various submission forms would have a checkbox to certify that all information ready to be submitted is ‘Accurate and True’. Please verify all information before selecting the checkbox and submitting the form.
  • Once forms have been submitted, no edits or amendments will be accepted.
     

How should I select my repertoire?

  • The repertoire requirements and suggestions can be found under Repertoire tab on Professional Class and Amateur Class pages.
  • Contestants are responsible for ensuring their repertoire meets the requirements and suggestions as specified.
     

What if I am unavailable at a scheduled date and time?

  • Contestants are reminded to make themselves available to participate in all stages of the competition as laid out in the Competition Schedules. The Organizing Committee is unable to accommodate requests for changes in dates or times.
  • Contestants who are unable to perform at the designated time will have their right to participate in that round forfeited, and thus not entitled to any recognition as a participant of that round.
     

What if I exceed the time limit, or differ from the competition guidelines?

  • The Jury is made aware of the Competition’s purpose, rules, and regulations, and will make the decision on all adjudication matters.
  • The Jury’s decision is Final and Not Subject to Appeal.
     

Are there rehearsal or practice spaces provided?

  • To ensure fairness of the Competition, the SYPC Organizing Committee and Steinway Thailand will not provide any instruments for rehearsal or practice.
  • Contestants should not attempt to secure rehearsal or practice opportunities at the Steinway & Sons showroom, but may seek out rehearsal or practice facilities at independent locations.
     

Will I receive comments from the Jury after the competition?

  • Unless otherwise decided by the Organizing Committee and Jury, Professional Class contestants who proceed onto the Semi-Finals and Grand Finals will receive comments on their performance from the Jury. All Amateur Class contestants will not receive any comments on their performance.

How do I obtain information and updates about the Competition?

  • All information, updates and results will be communicated via our website and/or your registered email address.
  • Communication is strictly via email from the official email account of SYPC@SteinwayThailand.com only.
     

Can I withdraw from the competition?

  • Contestants who are unable to participate in the Competition after registration may withdraw by contacting the Organizing Committee.
  • The Registration Fees will not be Refunded.

What are the differences between joining Professional Class and Amateur Class?

 

Class Professional Amateur

Suitable for

Pianists looking to improve their performance skills and seeking the challenge and prestige of competing at the  Steinway Youth Piano Competition.

Pianists who would like to showcase their piano-playing and experience the Steinway Youth Piano Competition, but prefer not to play the repertoire requirements of the Professional Class.

Age Categories 

3 Age Categories cut-off at: 
11 years old, 14 years old and 17 years old

4 Age Categories cut-off at: 
6 years old, 10 years old, 14 years old, and 17 years old

Repertoire 

Compulsory Repertoire of 3 contrasting pieces including the first movement of a required Sonata. 

Contestants can play any repertoire of their choice. 

Recognition 

- Professional Class Certificate and Medal 

- Comments from Jury for Semi and Finalists 

Amateur Class Certificate and Medal

Prize 

- Winners Recital for all Finalists 

- Trophy for Top 3 Finalists of each age Category

- Scholarship to attend a piano festival in France for the Grand Prize Winner

Trophy for Top 3 Finalists of each Age Category

Access to SYPC Regional Finals 

- All Professional Class Semifinalists and Finalists will receive 1 pair of tickets to the day-competition of the 7th SYPC Asia Pacific Regional Finals held in August 2025 at the Thailand Cultural Centre. 

- All Professional Class contestants  will have priority access to a pair of tickets to the 7th SYPC Asia Pacific Regional Gala Concert.
