CLOSE UP WITH MIKKEL MYER LEE

An Afternoon of Beethoven Sonatas

9th May 2026 | 16.30 hrs.

An afternoon of passion, depth, and timeless musical storytelling.

This recital traces Beethoven’s musical evolution from his early period into the bold maturity of his middle years — the central focus of this programme. This era reveals Beethoven at his most transformative: radiant with youthful brilliance, daring in emotional scope, and increasingly personal in expression.

Audiences will encounter the sparkle and confidence of his early voice, the sweeping drama and intensity of his middle-period writing, and a sonata that tells a strikingly specific human story. From the vitality of Op. 2 No. 2, to the electrifying power of the Appassionata, to the intimate narrative character of Les Adieux, this programme captures Beethoven in motion — expanding, deepening, and redefining the possibilities of the piano.

Following his international performances in Amsterdam and Thailand in 2025, Mikkel returns to Bangkok for a rare, one-off recital, continuing this Singaporean piano prodigy’s remarkable journey through the complete Beethoven sonatas.

ABOUT MIKKEL MYER LEE

Mikkel Myer Lee – A Remarkable Young Voice in Classical Music

At an age when most are only beginning their musical journey, Mikkel Myer Lee has already emerged as one of the most extraordinary young pianists of his generation. Combining rare musical maturity with fearless technical command, he has captivated audiences with performances that belie his years.

Mikkel gained international attention as the youngest pianist in history to perform the complete Chopin’s 24 Preludes, Op. 28 at the age of nine, marking him as one of the earliest known pianists to present this monumental cycle in its entirety. His artistry is further distinguished by performing both of Frédéric Chopin’s piano concertos in a single concert at the young age of ten, a feat that demands not only virtuosity but immense stamina and interpretive depth.

His repertoire reflects both ambition and depth, spanning the great pillars of the piano literature. Notably, Mikkel is undertaking the formidable journey of performing the complete 32 Piano Sonatas of Ludwig van Beethoven, a project often reserved for the most seasoned artists. Through this, he demonstrates not just prodigious ability, but a profound commitment to artistic growth and long-form musical storytelling.

Beyond technical brilliance, what sets Mikkel apart is his natural musical voice—sensitive, expressive, and deeply communicative. His performances reveal an instinctive understanding of structure, color, and emotional nuance, allowing audiences to connect with the music in a direct and meaningful way.

As he continues to develop, Mikkel Myer Lee stands poised not only as a prodigy, but as a serious artist in the making—one whose journey promises to leave a lasting mark on the classical music world.
