PERFORMER

Young pianist Yutong Sun is an active presence on the international concert stage, consistently drawing attention for his profound musicality and nuanced expression. He has achieved notable success in numerous international piano competitions, including Santander, Hahn, Maria Canals, Bösendorfer, New Orleans, and Horowitz, and has been honored with awards such as the Santander International Piano Competition Grand Prize.

His accolades include Second Prize at the Santander International Piano Competition in Spain, First Prize at the Hahn Competition in Spain, Third Prize at the Maria Canals Competition, and Second Prize at both the Horowitz Competition in Ukraine and the New Orleans Competition in the United States.

He has performed solo recitals at venues including the Salle Cortot in Paris, Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, Jordan Hall in Boston, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall, Warsaw Philharmonic Hall, National Centre for the Performing Arts in China, and Shanghai Oriental Art Center. His performances have been broadcast by Bavarian Radio in Germany, Polish National Radio, Spanish National Radio and Television, Beijing Radio and Television, and Shanghai People's Radio.

He is equally active in concerto and chamber music performances, collaborating with orchestras including the National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Galicia Symphony Orchestra, Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, and Phoenix Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with conductors including Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez, Earl Lee, Nicholas McGegan, Hugh Wolff, Paul Mann, Matthew Kasper, Maciej Tworek, José Trigueros, José Molina, Chen Lin, Liao Guomin, and Sun Yifan. Collaborating with musicians such as David Shifrin, Paul Watkins, Cuarteto Quiroga, Haesun Paik, Benjamin Beilman, Max Levinson, and Chen Sa, and has been invited to participate in Chamber Music Northwest, the Polish Easter Beethoven Festival, the Netherlands International Music Festival, and the Kissinger Summer Music Festival in Germany.

In 2012, he was invited by the international record label Naxos to record an album for their “Winners Series.” In 2025, he released his new album “Yu Xuan” in collaboration with the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) Classics label, featuring Brahms's four late piano pieces (Op. 116 to Op. 119), which received widespread acclaim.

His consistent artistic expression has earned high praise from international critics. Gramophone magazine remarked: “Sun Yutong's playing consistently maintains a world-class standard.” Born in 1995, Sun Yutong began piano studies with Professor Xie Yuan at age seven before attending the Central Conservatory of Music's elementary and secondary schools under Professor Chang Hua. He pursued advanced studies in the United States starting in 2015, earning Bachelor's, Master's, Performer's, and Artist's Diplomas from the New England Conservatory under Professors Alexander Korsantia and Deng Taishan. He currently serves as Artist-in-Residence at the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music.
