Steinway Thailand warmly invites you to “Building Strong Foundations in Piano Playing”, a specialized workshop designed for piano instructors and educators, co-conducted by two acclaimed pianists: Steinway Honorary Teacher Dr. Lin Hengyue, founder of Dr Lin Piano Academy, together with Dr. Nattapol Tantikarn, award-winning pianist and former Associate Director of the Piano Pedagogy Program at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance.

This workshop delves into practical and insightful approaches to piano pedagogy, with a focus on developing strong technical and musical foundations through effective strategies, purposeful repertoire choices, and a deeper understanding of how students learn. Participants will gain essential frameworks that can inspire and translate into their teaching, and will have the opportunity to witness both pedagogues conclude the session with a duet performance.

Dr. Lin Hengyue is a Singapore-based pianist and educator, recognized for her expressive artistry, versatile musicianship, and dedication to music education. Praised by The Straits Times as a pianist of “high spirited and warm hearted, with feeling and sensitivity,” she has established herself as a prominent figure on the international stage.

Hengyue earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance with full scholarship from the University of Oregon, where she was awarded the honor of Outstanding Graduate in Piano Performance. She also holds a Master’s degree from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor’s degree from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, where she was among the first students selected for the joint-degree program with Peabody. Throughout her studies, she trained under distinguished pedagogues including Steinway Artist and Chopin Competition laureate Dr. Dean Kramer, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory head of piano Professor Albert Tiu, Peabody Conservatory piano professor Marian Hahn.

As a performer, Hengyue has appeared in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the U.S. Department of State, and the Embassy of Singapore in Washington D.C. She toured with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra across North America in 2016, and her performances at Singapore’s Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, including the acclaimed Ballerinas two-piano concert and Yellow River Piano Concerto, have been met with critical acclaim. She has also collaborated with leading Singaporean composers and recorded album celebrating Singapore’s cultural milestones.

Beyond performance, Hengyue is actively involved in curation of international concerts and music festivals. Partnering with various organizations, she has organized and presented world-class artists in Singapore, and creating unique opportunities for young local musicians to perform in professional stages, or even sharing the stage with global masters.

As an educator, Hengyue is the Founder and principal of Dr Lin Piano Academy, where she provides her students with extensive opportunities for competitions, international festivals, concerto performances, and masterclasses with renowned pianists. Her students have achieved top prizes in competitions worldwide. She also serves as piano faculty for undergraduate and postgraduate students at Singapore Raffles Music College, and has been invited as Visiting Professor at Guangxi Arts University.

Frequently sought-after as a jury member, she has adjudicated international competitions including the Asia International Music Competition 2025, Steinway Youth Piano Competition 2025, Le Magnifique Piano Competition 2022, and the Vivace International Piano Competition 2022 (Singapore region), etc. She has also been invited to teach at the Bangkok Collaborative Piano Camp 2025 and Bangkok Youth Piano Concerto Camp 2026, and to present lectures, masterclasses and performances at the Kasetsart University and Steinway Shenzhen.

Bridging performance, education, and artistic leadership, Hengyue continues to shape the musical landscape of Southeast Asia while maintaining an active presence on the international stage.

Nattapol Tantikarn

Award-winning pianist Nattapol Tantikarn is recognized for his expressive depth, refined technique, and compelling stage presence— his artistry has earned him international acclaim with prizes from the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Young Artist Competition Northwest Division and the Wideman International Piano Competition (USA). He was also selected to compete in the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition (Japan) and the Leeds International Piano Competition (UK), two of the world’s most competitive and prestigious platforms for emerging pianists.

As a concert pianist, Nattapol has performed on world-renowned stages including Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in New York, Victoria Concert Hall and the Esplanade Recital Hall in Singapore, and the Hult Center and Beall Concert Hall in Oregon, USA. 
His performances are praised for their nuance, lyricism, and technical brilliance, consistently engaging audiences through thoughtful interpretation, offering audiences a memorable and captivating musical experience.

Nattapol earned his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Piano Performance with a specialization in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Oregon under the guidance of Dean Kramer, one of the very few selected pianists to receive mentorship from the legendary pianist Vladimir Horowitz at the Mannes School of Music in New York.

His musical artistry has also been shaped by masterclasses with many of the world’s leading pianists, including André Watts, Leon Fleisher, Yefim Bronfman, Angela Hewitt, Dmitri Alexeev, Jacques Rouvier, Boris Berman, and Dominique Merlet.

A committed music educator, Nattapol served on the teaching faculty at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance where he was also the Associate Director of the Piano Pedagogy Program. His pedagogical expertise has led to invitations to perform, adjudicate, and lead masterclasses internationally, including engagements in the United States, China, Thailand, and Singapore.

Now based in Singapore, Nattapol continues to mentor the next generation of selected group of dedicated pianists, including international competition prizewinners, and aspiring young musicians with strong artistic potential and passion for music. His teaching focuses on both strong technical foundations and artistic expression, helping each student develop their own unique musical identity in a supportive and engaging environment.

Nattapol believes in the power of music to connect, uplift, and communicate through shared experience the full complexity of human emotions. Through his performances, and original arrangements, he strives to bring classical music to wider audiences and foster a deeper appreciation for the richness of the piano repertoire.​
