lecture recital & piano masterclass

Steinway Thailand proudly presents an exclusive lecture recital and masterclass by Jure Goručan, the celebrated Slovenian pianist known for his artistic depth and captivating interpretations. The event begins with an engaging lecture recital, followed by individual one-on-one masterclass sessions, open for audience to observe, and concludes with an optional evening concert showcase. 

Titled “Urtext vs Interpretation” the lecture recital adopts an interactive approach that presents excerpts from various historical periods, from Baroque to Avant-garde - highlighting different technical and interpretative challenges, offering solutions, conceptual frameworks, and attitudes for approaching them.

In addition to their 45 minute sessions with the instructor, participants are encourage to observe sessions of other students and consider performing in the evening concert.

BIOGRAPHY

Jure Goručan is a Slovenian pianist and percussionist known for his versatility and artistic depth. Born in 1992 in Ljubljana, he studied percussion under Boris Šurbek before dedicating himself fully to the piano. His musical journey has taken him through the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne, where he studied with Arbo Valdma and Paulo Álvares, and later to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where he currently refines his craft under the guidance of Steinway artist Lilya Zilberstein.

Goručan has collaborated with prominent orchestras such as the Slovenian Philharmonic, RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, Residenz-Solisten of Munich, Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra, Zagreb Soloists, and Pärnu City Orchestra. As a chamber musician, he has performed alongside distinguished artists including Roman Kim, Geza Hosszu-Legocky, Paulo Álvares, Melvyn Tan, Signum Quartett, Alja Mandič, and Lyda Chen-Argerich. He has also appeared at prestigious festivals such as ClaviCologne, Le Printemps du Violon, Festival de Bellerive, Festival Maribor, and the Triple Bridge Festival.

His recording projects reflect his diverse artistic vision, with four albums spanning various styles and collaborations. These include a Sony Classical release with violinist Roman Kim, his solo debut Innuendo, Beautiful Vida—an improvisational exploration of Slovenian folk music with singer Ljoba Jenče, and a recent album featuring works by Prokofiev and Schubert with flutist Aleksandra Pleterski.

Goručan's performances have taken him across Europe, Asia, and North America, including extensive tours in China, South Korea, and Taiwan. His notable appearances include a world premiere of Arturo Cuellar’s Piano Sonata No. 2 at the Central Theatre of Shanghai, performances of Mozart and Beethoven concertos in Munich’s Cuvilliés-Theater and Hercules Hall, and collaborations broadcasted by KBS Korea.

Beyond performance, Goručan is deeply interested in the interdisciplinary aspects of music, exploring its connections to science, psychology, mysticism, and history. In his free time, he enjoys mountain hiking and studying the mechanics of his instrument.
