Steinway & Sons Thailand proudly invites you to our exclusive Steinway Teacher & Educational Partner (STEP) Workshop – “FINGERING MATTERS - Thinking Beyond Scales & Arpeggios” demonstrated by renowned pianist and educator, LOO BANG HEAN.

From the very first piano lessons, scales, arpeggios as well as finger exercises have been regularly drummed into piano students as an essential part of developing their finger strength or evenness. Whilst the importance of control over every finger is undisputed, effective fingering is much more than just strict adherence to scales fingering when working on more advanced repertoire.

In this workshop, Bang Hean will discuss some of the ways one could make optimum use of each finger's individual characteristics for both technical and expressive purposes. The oft-quoted "rules are meant to be broken" applies to using fingering as well, and various examples of less orthodox, but effective ways of fingerings will be demonstrated.

Bang Hean will be demonstrating on a Steinway Grand.
